The Greek Ombudsman published on 7th November a Special Report on Rights of Persons with Disabilities. The Local Government and Social Care Ombudsman issued a guide to help care providers learn from its complaints involving record keeping. The new guide focuses on a number of case studies highlighting the common issues the Ombudsman sees, and also includes good practice tips to help providers avoid the problems from occurring in their own settings.

Ombudsman trains 68 Hospital Ombudsman
The Office of the Ombudsman has trained 68 Hospital Ombudsman from 34 health facilities in Salima and Rumphi districts. The trainings, according to Deputy Director for Investigations and Research, Temwa Mughogho, and Chief Investigations and Research Officer in the Northern Region, Mrs. Elleanor Kabisala, were aimed at empowering the Hospital Ombudsman with necessary skills and knowledge on how to handle patient complaints.

The Danish Parliamentary Ombudsman recommends continued focus on new remand prisoners
The Ombudsman’s visits to the local prisons and the police show that the Prison and Probation Service and the police overall have an understanding of remand prisoners' vulnerable situation and take care to inform them of their rights and ensure their safety. However, based on these visits, the Danish Parliamentary Ombudsman has published a couple of recommendations in this field, which have been compiled in a thematic report, which is available now.

PCC facilitates the restoration of electricity to Ago-Ayo Community after two years of total darkness
The Osun State Office of the Public Complaints Commission (PCC) has recovered the Ago-Ayo Community Transformer after it was taken away by the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC) for Repair. Mr Raphael Adeniyi Adeniran, the Chairman of the Community on behalf of the Community had earlier written to complain to the Commission on the attitude of IBEDC HQ.

Ombudsman urges improvements in how trees are protected in Northern Ireland’s planning system
A report published by the Northern Ireland Public Services Ombudsman (NIPSO) into how trees are protected has found that despite 369 tree protection breaches reported between 2019 and 2022, only one resulted in enforcement action being taken, and none led to prosecution. The report also found there was a lack of clear information for the public on Tree Preservation Orders (TPOs), and that information about which trees are protected should be made more accessible.

The Office of the Ombudsman on 21 February 2024, organized an engagement meeting with media in Malawi to give them an update on systemic investigations it has been doing for the past two years into the implementation of the Affordable Input Program (AIP), whose report will soon be released.
