European Ombudsman criticises Commission failure to inform public how it assessed human rights risks in EU-Tunisia agreement
The European Ombudsman has criticised the Commission for not being transparent about the human rights information it relied on before signing an agreement with Tunisia that includes EU funds for border management. She also called on the Commission to set out explicit criteria for suspending EU funding.

Ombudsman published first report on water billing and disconnection practices
In April 2018, the Office of the Ombudsman in the Kingdom of Tonga published its first report. Although the Office had been established in 2001 (formerly as the Office of the Commissioner for Public Relations), the respective Act did not allow for reports to be published. An amendment to the Act effective in December 2016 now allows for the Ombudsman to publish reports.

Veterans Ombud Releases Report on Additional Dependant Care Reimbursement
On 26 February 2025, the Veterans Ombud Colonel (Ret’d) Nishika Jardine released a report on Additional Dependant Care, a reimbursement mechanism designed to provide relief for additional dependant care costs incurred by Veterans participating in the Veterans Affairs Canada (VAC) Rehabilitation Program. The report found unfairness in the rules for reimbursement that could result in some Veterans not being afforded the same relief as others.

Investigation into homelessness review process in Wales finds evidence of “systemic maladministration”
Report says that despite “beacons of good practice”, too many people at risk of homelessness are victims of “injustice” due to unacceptable delays, inadequate processes, poor communication and placement in unsuitable accommodation. SYT II Training in Vienna in June 2011 - now open for registration
Following the successful first I.O.I. edition of the “Sharpening Your Teeth”-Training that was attended by 38 participants from 17 different states, the I.O.I. is organising a second SYT training which will be held from 5 to 8 June 2011 at the I.O.I. General Secretariat in Vienna, Austria. This three-day training on systemic investigations for staff members of Ombudsman institutions is based on the format “Sharpening Your Teeth” that was successfully invented by the Ontario Ombudsman.
