Police Ombudsman evaluates impact of Body Worn Video
In a special report the Police Ombudsman for Northern Ireland, Marie Anderson, evaluates the impact of the introduction of Body Worn Video (BWV) on complaints about the Police Service Northern Ireland (PSNI). Ombudsman sends suggestions to make the suspension of tax executions effective
The Ombudsman suggested adaptations of procedures to ensure effective suspension of the practical effects of all tax enforcement proceedings in relation to seizures (or other coercive acts) on the part of the Tax Authority, the Social Security Executive Chambers and the third parties responsible for complying with them, in the cases of banks, paying entities (of salaries or pensions) and debtor entities (of credits of those executed).

Covid-19: states of emergency and democratic values - New contribution to the debate
On 26 May 2020 five members of the Council of Europe’s Venice Commission have published a new report on the respect for democracy, human rights and the rule of law during states of emergency. The Commission has previously produced general reports and country-specific opinions on both constitutional provisions and emergency legislation; a recent compilation of the Commission’s work in this area provided guidance into its specific findings.

Naser Ziberi appointed as the new Ombudsman
On 25 January 2021, the Macedonian Assembly elected Mr. Naser Ziberi as the new Ombudsman of North Macedonia for an eight-year mandate. In his brief introductory speech, Mr. Ziberi stressed that he is honored and privileged to serve as an Ombudsman and pledged to carry ahead the work of his predecessors Ixhet Memeti.

USOA hosts virtual training on poverty, race and consciousness
The United States Ombudsman Association (USOA) hosted a four-hour virtual training on 22 October 2020, entitled “Poverty, Race, and Consciousness”. The presenters were Dr. Shariff Abdullah and Dr. Donna M. Beegle. There were 98 individuals registered for the event, 17 of which were IOI members. The event was funded by an IOI subvention.
