    Children’s Advocate appointed

    The Ombudsman of Namibia announced the appointment of Ms Ingrid Husselmann as the Deputy Chief, effective 1 November 2018. As the Deputy Chief, Ms Husselmann will lead and oversee the operational management of the Division: Human Rights and Legal services. She will also serve as the Children’s Advocate in the Office of the Ombudsman.

    Appointment of the new Thai Ombudsman

    On 7 November 2021, the Royal Proclamation announced the appointment of Mr. Songsak Saicheua as the Ombudsman of Thailand in replacement of Mr. Boon Tapanadul who vacated his seat.  Mr. Songsak Saicheua will serve a seven-year term from the date of appointment according to section 17 of the Organic Act on Ombudsmen B.E. 2560 (2017) .

    Proposed amendments to the Law on the Legal Status of Aliens equated with legalization of human rights violations

    Seimas Ombudswoman Milda Vainiutė urged the authorities not to adopt amendments to the Republic of Lithuania Law on the Legal Status of Aliens, that would allow human rights violations and pose a threat to vulnerable migrants. After presenting the assessment of the proposed legal regulation, the Seimas Ombudswoman acknowledged that the draft law contradicts not only human rights, but also Lithuania’s international obligations.

    Défense des droits de l’enfant: Alioune Badara Cissé appelle à une poursuite du combat

    Le Médiateur de la République, Alioune Badara Cissé, a rappelé, mardi, à l’occasion de la Journée internationale de l’enfant africain, "la nécessité de poursuivre la défense et la promotion des droits de l’enfant". L’institution affirme que la défense des droits de l’enfant constitue "une de ses priorités". "Cet objectif se retrouve dans différentes déclarations de l’Association des Ombudsmans et Médiateurs de la Francophonie, Association dont nous sommes membres", rappelle-t-elle.

    Le Médiateur présente son Rapport annuel 2010

    Lors de la présentation de son Rapport annuel 2010 à Bruxelles, M. Diamandouros a déclaré : «La principale priorité du Médiateur est d'aider l'administration de l'UE à devenir plus ouverte, plus active, plus responsable et plus orientée vers les citoyens, afin d'accroître leur confiance envers le service public de l'Union européenne. Beaucoup doit encore être fait à cet égard.     Droit à l'éducation pour tous : rentrée 2024, des enfants toujours privés de leur droit

    Alors que 12 millions d’élèves du primaire et du secondaire font leur rentrée scolaire cette semaine, de trop nombreux enfants resteront chez eux faute de pouvoir être scolarisés, ou rencontreront de réelles difficultés dans leur apprentissage faute d’aménagements adéquats. Lycéens sans affectation, manque d’accessibilité et d’inclusivité pour les élèves en situation de handicap : ce sont des dizaines de milliers d’enfants qui, chaque année, voient leur droit à l’éducation entravé. Le Défenseur des droits est particulièrement vigilant à ces situations et fait de l’accès à l’éducation de tous les enfants une de ses priorités.

    New Local Government Ombudsman appointed

    Dr. Jane Martin has been appointed as Local Government Ombudsman. She took up her post in the Coventry office on 11 January 2010 joining the two other Local Government Ombudsmen, Tony Redmond and Anne Seex.
