    Report on issues associated with violence restraining orders and their relationship with family and domestic violence fatalities

    The Western Australian Ombudsman has tabled a report of a major investigation into the prevention of family and domestic violence fatalities.  The report identifies a range of important opportunities for improvements, including the need for a separate strategy to prevent Aboriginal family violence given that Aboriginal Western Australians are significantly overrepresented as victims of family violence. The report further identifies nine key principles for government agencies to apply when responding to family and domestic violence. Each agency has agreed to the 54 recommendations made by the Ombudsman.

    Office of the Northern Ireland Public Services Ombudsman Launched

    A new Ombudsman’s office for investigating complaints about public services is launched on 1 April 2016. The Office of the Northern Ireland Public Services Ombudsman (NIPSO) has been created by the Ombudsman (NI) Act 2016, a new piece of Assembly legislation aimed at making it easier for the public to complain about public services and at increasing the public accountability of public service providers. Mrs Marie Anderson, has been appointed as the first NIPSO.

He said that the highly contagious nature of the COVID-19 virus has highlighted how unsustainable it is to have three or more people, who are not from the same family, living in the same room for a significant amount of time.

    Ombudsman for Wales finds "catalogue of failings" by Cwm Taf Morgannwg University Health Board in recent report

    A 71-year-old cancer patient died after a Health Board provided her with a “very poor standard of care”, the Public Services Ombudsman for Wales has found. The Ombudsman launched an investigation after receiving a complaint about the care given to Mrs X (anonymised) in December 2019 by Cwm Taf Morgannwg University Health Board.

Recommendations were set on the basis of extensive research among EU citizens living in the Czech Republic. More than a thousand people, proportionally represented not only by nationality, but also by education or their residence in the Czech Republic, described their experiences in dealing with the authorities, health care or education.

    Ombudsman Svetina elected Vice-President at the meeting of the Association of Mediterranean Ombudsman

    At the invitation of the Kosovo Ombudsman Naim Qelaj, the Human Rights Ombudsman Peter Svetina participated at the meeting of the Association of Mediterranean Ombudsmen (AOM) in Priština, Kosovo.     Ombudsperson for Children held workshop on "The role of Ombudsman and Mediators in monitoring the situation of children in conflict with the law and deprived of their liberty"

    Vienna SYT training - I.O.I. funded nine scholarships

    For the second time the Sharpening Your Teeth Training for staff members of ombudsman institutions was hosted by the Vienna-based General Secretariat.
