We have the pleasure of inviting you to the 11th Assembly and Seminar of the Institute of Latin American Ombudsman (ILO), to be held virtually from 26 – 28 November 2020.
Since this year’s Assembly and Seminar take place in November, the ILO Board decided to title the event “Mirabal Sisters”, in honor of the Dominican sisters Patria, Minerva and María Teresa Mirabal, who fervently opposed the dictatorship of Rafael Leónidas Trujillo. The three sisters were killed by the dictator’s intelligence services on 25 November 1960, when they returned from visiting the husbands of two of them in prison. The sisters became a symbol for the cause of the fight against gender violence. To pay them tribute, the United Nations established 25 November as the “International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women”.
In the context of the pandemic, ILO also decided to put a special focus on human rights in exceptional situations and the role human rights institutions play in these settings.
You can find the REGISTRATION FORM here.
The Seminar will be held on 26 and 27 November 2020 from 11h30 - 13h30 and 15h30 - 17h30 (Argentine local time). Itwill be held in Spanish, with simultaneous interpretation into English and Portuguese. For more details, please consult the Seminar programme further down below.
