The Ombudsman community and stakeholders came together at a seminar at Aberystwyth University. The University jointly with Ombudsman Association and the International Ombudsman Institute hosted the event which looked at best practice across Europe and beyond.
Guests included Ombudsman from around Europe, the Chair of the National Assembly for Wales’ Finance Committee, Simon Thomas AM and key academics.
European President of the IOI, Rafael Ribó, warned that Wales could be "left behind" by other parts of Europe if the current Public Service Ombudsman for Wales, Nick Bennett, is not given more powers.
The fourth Assembly consulted on a draft Ombudsman bill that would include giving the Public Services Ombudsman for Wales own initiative powers and the ability to accept oral complaints.
If taken forward it would be the first ever major Assembly committee-led legislation since the institution was established in 1999.
