In Commemoration of the 20th anniversary of the Ombudsman of Korea, the Anti-Corruption and Civil Rights Commission (ACRC) hosted the Asian Global Ombudsman Conference in Seoul as well as the Board of Directors Meeting of the Asian Ombudsman Association (AOA) and the regular meeting of the IOI's Asian Region, between the 1st and 3rd of July this year.
The conference welcomed delegations from twelve countries (including Austria, Canada, China, Indonesia, Iran, Ireland, Japan, Malaysia, Pakistan, Thailand, the United States) amounting to about 200 guests from Korea and abroad.
The IOI was represented by 2nd Vice-President Diane Welborn (USA), Secretary General Günther Kräuter, European Regional President Peter Tyndall (Ireland) and Board member Howard Sapers (Canada), who all contributed to the conference as speakers and chairs of the various working sessions. In addition, an expert of the World Bank attended and supported the fruitful discussion.
The comprehensively arranged conference covered a wide range of topics, such as the challenges currently facing Ombudsmen worldwide, the role of new technologies to the work of Ombudsman Institutions and the introduction of applied measures for sharing functions among Ombudsman Institutions, amongst many others.
