On June 23rd, Mr. Gye-ok Park, Deputy Director General for Complaints Analysis, ACRC received an award for "Advancing Knowledge Management in Government" at the United Nations Public Service Awards 2011 in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. The e-People system of the ACRC was highly appreciated with its effectiveness and efficiency.
e-People (www.epeople.go.kr), which is operated by the Anti-Corruption & Civil Rights Commission (ACRC), has won the United Nations Public Service Awards 2011 in the category of "Advancing Knowledge Management in Government". On the occasion of the United Nations Public Service Day on June 23, the United Nations select and honor creative and innovative administrative achievements every year and assist in promoting best practices worldwide.
e-People is an integrated online portal that deals with civil complaints and proposals regarding central and local governments and public organizations. It is also utilized as a venue for free and open discussion. The average number of daily visitors is about 100,000. Through an in-depth analysis of approximately 800,000 complaints filed through e-People per year, the ACRC endeavors to understand citizens' grievances and concerns and mitigate inconveniences caused by unreasonable policies and wrongful practices. The UNPSA Programme highly valued the administrative process in which the ACRC analyses citizen complaints, identifies problems, and improves laws and institutions.
e-People has seized the opportunity to promote its effectiveness and efficiency throughout the globe. An official from the ACRC said, "We will offer unstinted cooperation and support for developing countries with a great interest in e-People, and help them adopt our process for resolving civil complaints".
e-People has been showered with multiple accolades over the years, including the Online Politics Trophy Top 10 at the World eGov Forum 2006, the Best Demonstration Stand Award at the eChallenges 2008 and the United Nations Public Service Awards 2011.
