Managing Evidence

19 April 2022 (10h00 – 11h30 SAT)

The African Ombudsman Research Centre (AORC) has identified the issue of managing evidence as one of the training priorities required by African Ombudsman. In responding to this need, AORC cordially invites African Ombudsman and their staff to a Zoom Webinar on “Managing Evidence” on 19 April 2022.

Managing evidence has been identified in AORC’s ongoing needs assessment as one of the training priorities required by African Ombudsman. In responding to this need, AORC has planned a webinar entitled “Managing Evidence” for African Ombudsman and their staff.

Given that any investigation conducted by Ombudsman has the potential to be challenged in court, this webinar will discuss the techniques for processing and managing evidence correctly to support good quality investigative reports that are able to withstand scrutiny in court.

The webinar will focus on:

  • Types of evidence and admissibility requirements
  • Evidence gathering, analysis and evaluation
  • Chain of custody and preservation of evidence

Speaking at this facilitated discussion will be Hon. Nirere Madeleine, Ombudsman of Rwanda, Hon. Grace Tikambenji Malera, Ombudsman Malawi, and Hon. Adv. Busisiwe Mkhwebane, Public Protector of South Africa. The Webinar will be facilitated by Hon Bakary Sanyang, Ombudsman of Gambia.
