The term of Mr Yung-hoon Sung as Chairman of the Anti-Corruption & Civil Rights Commission (ACRC) of Korea ended in June 2017. As a result, the position of one Asian Director on the IOI Board of Directors became vacant.
Asian Regional President, Mr Asad Ashraf Malik, contacted the Secretary General regarding the election of a regional Director for the Asian Region and the General Secretariat was pleased to assist the region by holding an electronic ballot to fill the vacant position.
Two candidates stood for election and the participation in this electronic ballot has been very active: In total, 18 member institutions were entitled to vote and 13 participated in the electronic ballot to cast their vote within the given deadline.
Ms Un-Jong Pak, Chairperson of the Anti-Corruption & Civil Rights Commission (Korea) received the highest number of votes and was therefore declared elected as Asian Director.
In her letter of acceptance Ms Pak expressed her gratitude and said: “It is a great honor for me to be elected and I gratefully accept the duty of the IOI Asian regional director. I will put my utmost into the development of the IOI and the Ombudsman institution and into the active partnership of the IOI Asian Region."
