UK | Call for single Public Services Ombudsman for England

The Public Administration Committee published a report in favour of the creation of a single Public Services Ombudsman for England. This report advocates a change to how ombudsman services are run in England and would mean a significant change to the Ombudsman Service in the UK.

According to the report, it was suggested that “a single public services ombudsman for England could help to reduce some of the confusion individuals experienced with services increasingly being delivered via the public and private sectors”. Suggestions furthermore include that “bringing together ombudsmen that currently deal with complaints about public services in England, such as the Local Government Ombudsman, the Housing Ombudsman, and the relevant parts of PHSO, could be beneficial in making it simpler for people to complain”.

The published report was ordered by the House of Commons to be printed 1 April 2014 (see Link below).
