ISRAEL | Carmit Fenton Adv. is the new Head of the Office of the Ombudsman at the State Comptroller and Ombudsman Office of Israel

On 2 February 2025, Ms. Carmit Fenton, Adv. entered into her seven-year term of office as Head of the Ombudsman Office.

Ms. Fenton was appointed as Head of the Ombudsman Office by the State Audit Affairs Committee of the Knesset (Israeli parliament), upon the recommendation of the State Comptroller and Ombudsman, Mr. Matanyahu Englman.

Ms. Fenton has a Bachelor's (LLB) and Master's (LLM) Degree (Cum Laude) in Law from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. She served in senior positions in the Public Service, among others, the Tel Aviv District Commissioner of the Ministry of Interior; Chairman of the Planning and Zoning - Damages and Betterment Levies -  Appeal Committees of the Central and Tel Aviv Districts; the Legal Advisor of the Second Television and Radio Authority; the Legal Advisor Assistant of the State Comptroller.

Prior to her current position, Ms. Fenton served as the National Health Insurance Law Ombudsman at the Ministry of Health, which included handling of some 20,000 complaints a year filed against Health Maintenance Organizations (HMO), hospitals and other health services and institutes.

Adv. Fenton is replacing Dr. Esther Ben-Haim, who completed her term of office as Head of the Ombudsman Office in December 2024.
