The Office of the Complaints Commissioner (Ombudsman) of the Turks and Caicos Islands joined the International Community in celebration of International Ombudsman Day, which was observed on 12th October 2023 under the theme: “Diverse in Role, United in Service.”
The primary goal of the Ombudsman Day is to:
- Bring public awareness of the office of the Ombudsman.
- Educate the public about the role of the Ombudsman.
- Explain the wide variety of services that the Ombudsman provides.
- Encourage greater use of ombudsman programs and services.
- Highlight the value ombudsman brings to the institutions and constituents they serve.
Consequently, the Office of the Complaints Commission will use this opportunity to continue its awareness and educational drive with meetings scheduled throughout the Islands.
On Thursday, 12th October 2023, the Right Honorable Rita Gardiner, OBE, OTCI, the Complaints Commissioner and Ms. Samadia Lightbourne, the Investigative Officer from the Office of the Complaints Commissioner, visited the twin Islands of North and Middle Caicos, where they were well received and supported by Mr. Jasmin Walkin the District Commissioner for North Caicos, and Mr. Osbourne Delancy the District Commissioner for Middle Caicos.
Persons throughout the various communities of North and Middle Caicos supported the initiative, and residents of both communities were delighted to learn about the office of the Complaints Commission and its responsibilities. Several concerns were raised and will be reviewed.
The Right Honorable Gardiner was grateful for the turnout and thanked the people of North and Middle Caicos for their warm welcome and support. She looks forward to serving them in her capacity as the Ombudsman. Special thanks to the District Commissioners, Mr. Jasmin Walkin, and Mr. Osbourne Delancy. This event was a success because of your support.
