BackDemocracy Matters is a global conversation hosted by Devex, in partnership with the International Institute for Democracy and Electoral Assistance (IDEA), to discuss accountability as a central element of deepening democracy.
As the only global organization for the cooperation of more than 170 independent ombudsman institutions from over 90 countries worldwide, the IOI was invited to contribute a guest column by IOI Secretary General Günther Kräuter to the Democracy Matters Campaign 2015.
In his guest column, Secretary General Kräuter stresses the importance Ombudsman Institutions (OIs) play as a core element of democracy and highlights topics such as accountability, the support of colleagues under threat or the problematic development regarding the privatization of public services as some of the IOI’s most recent areas of activity and concern.
