The Committee on Domestic and Ethnic Affairs of the Control Yuan conducted a circuit supervision and inspection of the Ministry of the Interior on 4 November 2024, led by Convener Chu-Fang Chang, accompanied by President Chu Chen, Vice President Hung-Chun Lee, and other CY Members. Minister Shih-Fang Liu and senior officials of the Ministry presented briefings on three key areas: enhancing safe and resilient housing, promoting a sustainable migrating and living environment, and fostering a diverse and equitable society, followed by a discussion session.
Convener Chang stated that while the Committee oversees one ministry and five committees, its supervisory focus primarily relates to domestic affairs. Therefore, the annual circuit supervision of the Ministry of the Interior remains a key priority for the members. She expressed hope that through such exchanges and thorough communication, government agencies can better respond to public expectations and help improve administrative efficiency.
During the discussion, CY President Chen specifically addressed the need to amend regulations regarding self-initiated urban planning land readjustment to prevent improper benefits. She also pointed out that regarding the implementation of the Spatial Planning Act, the Executive Yuan and relevant ministries should integrate their internal positions to ensure consistent external communication. Other CY Members raised concerns and inquiries about various issues, including: establishing national standards for elevator safety inspections in old apartments, accelerating legislative amendments and increasing incentives for urban regeneration and dangerous & old buildings, carbon emissions from beach cleaning in national parks and conservation methods, the feasibility of achieving net-zero emissions by 2050, and the need to review Taiwan’s basic ethnic demographic statistics. Minister Liu and relevant officials provided detailed responses to each inquiry.
