FRANCE | Defender of Rights reports on situation of migrant Roma in France

On 24 June 2013, the Defender of Rights sent to the French Prime Minister a report on the implementation of the departmental circular of 26 August 2012 related to “the implementation and the follow-up of operations of evictions from illegal camps”.

In this report on the situation of migrant Roma in France, the Defender of Rights observes an increasing tension between the inhabitants of the camps and the neighboring territories and that “the perspectives of a successful integration remain very poor”. He also shared his concern regarding the treatment suffered by Roma and in particular by Roma families that are put in a situation of “forced nomadism”.

The French version of the report is available on the website of the Defender of Rights. The main aspects and conclusions of the report will be available in English on the internet site of the Defender of Rights in September 2013
