Jordan | Dialogue seminar on the role of universities in promoting integrity and fight against corruption

During a dialogue seminar held in the Jordanian Integrity and Anti-Corruption Commission, entitled "The Role of Universities in Promoting Integrity and Combating Corruption", the Chairman of the Integrity and Anti-Corruption Commission Mohamed Al-Allaf said that the Jordanian universities represented by their educational bodies are the most capable national elites- given their leading role of holding the educational process- to instill integrity and anti-corruption values in students and young people, who will be leading the society and the state institutions and in the future”.

During the seminar, which was attended by the deans of student affairs, the deans of scientific research at public and private universities, and the heads of student unions in Jordanian universities, Al-Allaf said that the Commission plays a major national role in the policy- making of the State for both economy and security aspects, stressing the importance of the National Strategy for Integrity and Anti-Corruption for the years (2017-2025) in achieving the highest level of standards of prevention of corruption, law enforcement, and protecting of public money. He emphasizes also the role of the partnership with Jordanian universities and educational bodies in communicating the mission of the Commission in promoting national integrity and combating corruption. “Although these concepts are rooted among the Jordanian citizen, the Commission seeks to shape them in a value code, reflected in the decisions and regulations of the universities. This partnership is considered one of the best means to convey the mission of the Commission to all national elites in the society.

For his part, a member of the Board of the Anti-Corruption Commission Dr. Osama Al Mohaisen, stressed the importance of the Sixth Discussion Paper of His Majesty the King, and the rule of law as the basis of the civil state, as well as the role of the postgraduate studies and the role of the Deanship of Student Affairs of the universities, calling on them to conduct special studies on integrity and combating corruption from a financial, economic and legal perspective, and  to cooperate and cooperate with the Commission in holding extracurricular meetings, to raise awareness of the citizens in the  standards of integrity and combating corruption.

On the other hand, the Dean of Student Affairs at Al Al-Bayt University, Dr. Omar Falah Al-Fatin explained the importance of the role of education and learners in combating corruption and promoting the principles of integrity. He called on the Jordanian universities to promote these values by establishing transparent principles in their administrative procedures related to recruitment and others areas, pointing out that the professors of the universities serve as models for students in the implementation of the principles of integrity and anti-corruption.

Dr. Khaled Al-Qudah, Director of the project titled “raising awareness of national elites in the principles of national integrity”, the Director of the Directorate of Integrity, and the Director of the Directorate of Prevention in the Commission addressed the objectives of the project, pointing out that the seminar aims at raising awareness among the national elites on the principles of integrity in various fields, and that the Commission has prepared a master plan and an operational plans that will include many of the activities to be implemented in achieving the objectives of the project. This seminar is held within the context of a series of seminars, aimed at raising awareness of the elites and involving them as partners in communicating the awareness messages of the Commission. The seminar also included a dialogue discussion among the participants.
