The General Assembly of the IOI European Chapter and the Conference “Ombudsman’s Role in a Democracy” will be held on 17 to 19 September 2014 in Tallinn, Estonia.
During these few days, the contribution that ombudsmen can make to the creation and working of a robust democracy will be explored. This is an issue that is of great concern to all of us, especially at a time of major upheaval in Europe. How do international and European rules impinge on the activity of Ombudsmen? Should the Ombudsman promote legislative reform? What should be ombudsman`s role in the control of state`s surveillance activities? These are some of the topics we intend to tackle, both in the plenary session and the numerous panels following it. Inevitably, situations in different European countries differ from each other, at least in details, and therefore, we are looking forward to meeting colleagues around the Europe and the exchange of experience.
Visit the official Conference Website for more information about the conference programme and registration. We are very much looking forward to welcoming you in Tallinn!
