BAHRAIN | Ghada Hameed Habib has been appointed as Ombudswoman

Ms. Ghada Hameed Habib has been appointed as Ombudswoman at the Interior Ministry by Royal Decree (62) of 2022.

Ms. Ghada Hameed Habib has joined The Independent Ombudsman Office as the Director of the International Cooperation and Development Directorate by decree of the prime minister on July 4, 2013. She then assumed the position of Deputy Ombudsman by Royal Decree on August 27, 2019 till her appointment as Ombudsman with the rank of undersecretary by Royal Decree on November 2, 2022. Notably, she is the first woman to hold this position in the Kingdom of Bahrain as well as on a GCC level.

Her excellency has also participated in several international events and conferences in relation to the work of ombudsmen's offices worldwide that took place in the United States of America and the European Union.

Ms. Ghada has also contributed in the development of the principles and standards of the Independent Ombudsman Office on visiting prisons and places of detention. It is the first of its kind in Bahrain and in line with the rules of the United Nations and international treaties related to prisons, correctional facilities and detention centers.

Her excellency is effectively active in communication with foreign embassies and diplomatic missions accredited in the Kingdom of Bahrain, and with delegations visiting the Independent Ombudsman Office which includes ministers, officials and parliamentarians, and with international human rights organizations, as well as with foreign journalists and media professionals.
