From 26 to 28 of November 2019 a high level conference on the occasion of the 15th anniversary of Armenia's Human Rights Defender's Institution took place in the National Assembly in Yerewan.
Arman Tatoyan, Human Rights Defender of the Republic of Armenia, had the honour to welcome Armenia’s Prime minister as well as the President of the National Assembly. Tatoyan stressed that the anniversary conference has not only been organized to celebrate achievements, but also to host a professional, international, high level exchange in order to keep improving daily work.
A great number of Ombudsman contributed to the conference, such as the IOI members from Albania, Georgia, Greece, Moldova, Serbia and Slovenia. Furthermore, representatives from international bodies like the Council of Europe, OSCE, Venice Commission, CPT, CCDH or the Konrad Adenauer foundation participated in the high level event. Günther Kräuter, Consultant of the IOI and former IOI Secretary General reminded in his contribution that “the most important responsibility of the Ombudsman is to hear the voice of the voiceless. Ombudsman institutions must use all the instruments available to fulfil this mission.”
The conference provided participants with a rich and varied programme, focusing on the role of National Human Rights Institutions, freedom of expression and hate speech, the prevention of ill-treatment and the protection of women’s rights. Thanks to the remarkable event, professionals could gain valuable learnings for their daily work in the field of human rights.
