The Human Rights Defender of Armenia and the European Court of Human Rights are launching a new project: The Armenian Human Rights Defender met the new elected President of the European Court of Human Rights
The Human Rights Defender Mr. Arman Tatoyan announced another significant achievement for the Human Rights Defender’s institution.
A regular consultation with the new elected President of the European Court of Human Rights Mr. Ropert Spano took place in Strasbourg yesterday. The judge of the European Court of Human Rights Mr. Armen Harutyunyan, the Registrar of the European Court of Human Rights Mr. Roderick Liddell and the Head of the President’s Private Office Mr. Patrick Titiun were also participating in the meeting.
Given the international importance of the Human Rights Defender’s activity, the President of the European Court of Human Rights has proposed to jointly initiate a new project aimed at assisting the development of new international cooperation experience between the ombudsmen institutions and the European Court of Human Rights in Europe.
The President of the European Court of Human Rights proposed the candidacy of the Human Rights Defender of Armenia in the capacity of the keynote speaker for the events. Furthermore, we reached an agreement providing that the initiative can be accomplished through the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe or in another corresponding format.
The third party interventions in the cases pending before the European Court of Human Rights in respect to Armenia, the submission of independent assessments to the Council of Europe Directorate General Human Rights and Rule of Law regarding the execution of the European Court of Human Rights judgments in respect to Armenia, the development of legal standards and the reflection of the jurisprudence of the Human Rights Defender in the legal acts of the Armenian courts served as a basis for initiating the joint project.
The President of the Strasbourg Court emphasized the important role of the Human Rights Defender’s reports for the Court and its activities aimed at the implementation of the European Convention on Human Rights and the European Court of Human Rights’ judgments in our country.
“At the beginning of the meeting I congratulated Mr. Ropert Spano on the occasion of taking the high office of the President of the European Court of Human Rights by wishing him successful activities and new accomplishments. As a reminder, the President of the European Court of Human Rights previously worked as the Parliamentary Ombudsman of Iceland, which further contributed to the effectiveness of the consultations”, wrote the Human Rights Defender Mr. Arman Tatoyan.
