ICIC 2019
This year’s ICIC Conference will be held from 10 – 14 March 2019 in Johannesburg, South Africa and co-hosted by the Information Regulator South Africa and The University of Pretoria.
The conference will open on Sunday 10 March with registration and possible side event by UNESCO, followed by two days of open sessions on 11 and 12 March. On Wednesday 13 March there will be a closed session for information commissioners and ombudspersons.
Following the ICIC 2017 in Manchester (UK) Information Commissioner Elizabeth Denham made the commitment to set up a group of parties to develop a permanent structure for the ICIC. A Governance Working Group (GWG), which includes information commissioners from Argentina, Alberta (Canada), Hungary, India, Mexico, Scotland, Serbia and South Africa, was created and met for the first time in March 2018.
Online consultation
In order to facilitate the discussion during the closed session of the ICIC 2019, the GWG is keen to hear your views on the governance model and mechanisms that have been put forward in the Charter, as well as on the logo which will identify the ICIC globally. ICIC therefore launches an online consultation which will run until the 19 February 00:00 GMT. You can access the consultation HERE.
The responses to the consultation will be analysed and presented during the closed session with a view to adopt the Charter. Your considerations will also assist in guiding a roundtable discussion on the ICIC’s priorities for the next three years. Register for the ICIC 2019
Registration has opened and is available via the University of Pretoria’s website along with accommodation and transportation options. Delegate fees for all participants are available on the registration site, with a reduced rate for NGO staff and the staff of information commissioners and ombudspersons eligible for the government official rate. Following registration, please inform the ICIC Secretariat (ICIC-Secretariat@ico.org.uk) of your attendance at the Closed Session.
