THAILAND | International Webinar on “The Ombudsman’s Role during and post COVID-19 Pandemic” on the occasion of the 21st Anniversary of the establishment of Ombudsman Thailand successfully conducted

On 2 April 2021 from 13:00 -16.30 hrs. (ICT), at the Office of the Ombudsman, Ombudsman Thailand organised the International Webinar entitled “The Ombudsman’s Role during and post COVID-19 Pandemic” Commemorating the 21st Anniversary of  the establishment of Ombudsman Thailand.

The webinar was an excellent opportunity for sharing knowledge, experiences, Best practices and implementation of Ombudsman colleagues in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. The lesson learned would be beneficial for improving the Ombudsman’s works during and post these challenging times.

General Viddhavat Rajatanun, IOI Treasurer and Chief Ombudsman, Thailand gave his welcoming remarks and later presented on this matter. Ombudsman Thailand has performed its duty and carried out its mandate to redress grievances and unfairness encountered by the people especially from the government’s measures to control and prevent the spread of COVID-19. The Ombudsman has monitored the activities of public authorities and provided them with recommendations to ensure the country’s rehabilitation in terms of economy, society and public health services and fairness for all.

Besides, speakers at the Webinar included Mr. Peter Tyndall, President of the International Ombudsman Institute (IOI) and Ombudsman, Ireland; Ms. Diane Welborn, IOI First Vice-President and Ombudsman of Dayton and Montgomery County of Ohio State, USA; Mr. Chris Field, IOI Second Vice-President and Ombudsman Western Australia, Australia; Mr. Werner Amon, IOI Secretary General and Member of the Austrian Ombudsman Board; Ms. Victoria Pearman, Regional President of Caribbean & Latin America and Ombudsman, Bermuda; Mr. Peter Boshier, Regional President of Australasia & Pacific and Chief Ombudsman, New Zealand; Mr. Şeref Malkoç, President of the Organization of Islamic Countries’ Ombudsman Association (OICOA) and Chief Ombudsman, Turkey (8) Mr. Mokhammad Najih, Chairman of the Ombudsman, Indonesia; Mr. SHIRAIWA Suguru, Director-General of the Administrative Evaluation Bureau, Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications, Japan; Hon. Samuel Martires, Ombudsman, Philippines; and Mrs. Feruza Eshmatova, Authorized Person of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan for Human Rights (Ombudsman).

In this regards, Mr. Somsak Suwannasujarit, Ombudsman, executives and representatives of the Office of the Ombudsman’s staff also attended this event. The live webinar was streamed on Zoom program and the Office’s online channels.  Interested people can now watch the recorded video of this webinar on the Ombudsman Thailand's Facebook and Youtube sites.
