As part of the IOI President’s visit to the Control Yuan to receive its highest honour, the First Grade Medal, he also participated in a number of cultural visits, including: the Beitou Hot Springs District; the Beitou public library, Taiwan’s first ‘green building; the utterly beautiful Sun Moon Lake, an ancient and sacred place for the Indigenous Lolo people; the Kaohsiung Museum of History, which combines an extraordinary interactive and modern museum with a sobering commemoration of the appalling human rights violation of the ‘February 28 incident’; Kaohsiung Formosa Boulevard Station, famous for its ‘Dome of Light’, the world’s largest glass art installation made from individual pieces of glass; the wonderful architectural achievement that is ‘Weiwuying’ National Kaohsiung Center for the Arts; as well as the Pier-2 Art Centre, bringing vibrant life to the port area of Kaohsiung.
The President finished his visit with an evening in Kaohsiung with a dinner in his honour at the residence Madam Han, who was the most exceptionally gracious host and offered the very well-known hospitality of the Kaohsiung people. Dinner guests included the Yu-Lin Han, President, Jong Shyn Shipbuilding Co. Ltd.; Yang, Ming-Jou, Chairman, Taiwan Sugar Corporation; Ying-Yao Cheng PhD., President, National Sun Yet-sen University; Evelyn Y.T. Chen PhD., President, National University of Kaohsiung; President Chen Chu; Lin Wen-cheng; Member, Control Yuan; Judy, Fu-meei Jui, Secretary General, Control Yuan and Rebecca Poole, Chief of the Staff to the IOI President.
