Sint Maarten | IOI press conference in Sint Maarten

On the occasion of the biennial conference of the Caribbean Ombudsman Association (CAROA) the IOI is currently holding a complaint handling seminar in Bonaire.

IOI Secretary General Günther Kräuter – who acts as one of the key note speakers of the conference – took this opportunity to pay the Office of Sint Maarten Ombudsman Nilda Arduin a visit and to participate in a press conference she held to present the Office’s annual report.

The press conference was opened by Dr. Randolf Duggins, Secretary General of the Ombudsman’s office and followed by the presentation of the Ombudsman’s annual report. Ombudsman Arduin concluded the presse conference by stressing how important training initiatives, such as the one organised by the IOI in Bonaire, are for colleagues in the region. They have a sustainable effect, since the knowledge gained during such seminars is afterwards brought back to the various institutions and implemented in the everyday work of the offices.

IOI Secretary General Kräuter informed the interested press about the principles, objectives and strategic goals of the IOI. He commended Nilda Arduin for the excellent services she rendered to the organization in her function as Regional President of the IOI’s Caribbean & Latin American Region. Dr Arduin’s expertise and passion for the Ombudsman concept and her work as Regional President and member of the IOI Board of Directors is highly appreciated and Mr Kräuter expressed his hope that she will remain an active part of the IOI even after the end of her term as Ombudsman of Sint Maarten.

After the press conference Secretary General Kräuter met with the Ombudsman’s staff where he explained that the IOI as an organization is built on Ombudsman institutions worldwide and that each and every one of these member institutions forms an integral and important part of the IOI family; whether they have bigger or smaller offices, larger or smaller numbers of staff. The Ombudsman of Sint Maarten and her staff expressed their high appreciation for the Secretary General’s visit.
