The I.O.I. is pleased to announce that Diane Welborn, Ombudsman, Joint Office of Citizen Complaints for Dayton, Ohio has been elected as the new Director for the IOI North American Region. Diane Welborn will replace Bill Angrick after his retirement in June 2010.
Diane Welborn has served as Ombudsman and Executive Director of the Joint Office of Citizen Complaints for Dayton and Montgomery County, Ohio since July 1999. She served as Deputy Ombudsman for six years before becoming Ombudsman. The office handles citizen complaints about government agencies and advocates for the rights of residents of long term care facilities.
Before her association with the Ombudsman’s Office, Ms. Welborn served as Program Coordinator for Antioch University’s European Term; Coordinator of Professional Networks and Membership for Amnesty International, USA; Protective Services Worker for the Department of Human Services in Tennessee; and Staff member of Dwight Hall of Yale University. Ms. Welborn earned her Master’s Degree from the School of Social Service Administration at the University of Chicago.
Ms. Welborn is the author of the weekly “Ombudsman Column” published in the Dayton Daily Newspaper and the producer of the monthly “Ombudsman Program” on Dayton Access Television.
Ms. Welborn currently serves as Vice-President of the United States Ombudsman’s Association; Chair of the Advisory Board of the American Red Cross Emergency Housing Program; Board of Directors Member for Legal Aid of Western Ohio and Advocates for Basic Legal Equality, Inc., and Chair of the Ambassadorial Scholarship Committee of the Dayton, Ohio Rotary Club.
