PORTUGAL | New Ombudsman elected

On 24 July 2013, Professor José de Faria Costa was elected by the Parliament as the new Portuguese Ombudsman (Provedor de Justiça), succeeding Judge Alfredo José de Sousa.

Professor José de Faria Costa is a Ph Doctor in Law (full Professor), in the criminal law field, by the Faculty of Law of the University of Coimbra. He is a member of several editorial boards of national and foreign academic journals of his speciality. He has partaken several legal reforms in the field of criminal law. He is also the President of the Institute of Criminal Law and Economic Committee [IDPEE].

Prof. José de Faria Costa took office before the President of the Parliament on 31 July 2013.
