Prof. Irena Lipowicz, Human Rights Defender of the Republic of Poland, held a meeting with Minister of Justice Mr Borys Budka and met US Special Envoy for Human Rights of LGBT Persons, Mr Randy W. Berry.

Meeting with Minister of Justice

Prof. Irena Lipowicz, the Human Rights Defender of the Republic of Poland held a meeting with Mr Borys Budka, the Minister of Justice. Among topics discussed during the meeting were issues related to the reform of criminal procedure, the draft law on free legal aid and the necessity to promote mediation in criminal cases. The situation of minor mothers residing in juvenile detention center with their children was also subject of their discussion.

Meeting with US Special Envoy for the Human Rights of LGBT Persons

The Human Rights Defender of the Republic of Poland held a meeting with Mr. Randy W. Berry, US Special Envoy for the Human Rights of LGBT Persons. Prof. Lipowicz and Mr. Berry discussed the functions of the Ombudsman as the independent equality body and the cooperation of the Ombudsman with the LGBT community. Due to the current migration crisis, prof. Lipowicz has drawn attention to the problems of Yazidis, Christians and LGBT refugees in Northern Africa, who are particularly vulnerable groups and need the support of the international community.
