THE GAMBIA | Ombudsman conducts more regional sensitisation

Following a series of sensitisation activities in the Lower River Region, the Office continues to create more awareness in the other parts of rural Gambia.

The latest of such activities were conducted in the North Bank Region in the form of workshops, radio programmes and clinics with both institutions and communities.

The workshop for public officers was graced by the governor of the region, Ebrima K.S. Dampha.

Governor Dampha commended the Ombudsman for the initiative and urged the participants, who were mainly junior public officers, to participate keenly and to share the knowledge with their colleagues.

Targetting this category of public officers is a new strategy of the Office of the Ombudsman, aimed at sensitising more potential victims of administrative injustice.

The lower cadre bear the brunt of adminitartive injustice withing public institutions. It also constitutue the greater percentage of public officers who come more into contact with members of the public who access public services.

Acts of administrative injustice committed against members of the public can be greatly minimized through adequate sensitisation of public officers within this category as they are ones on the frontline of public service delivery.

In the fight against administrative injustice through awareness creation, the communities remain one of our major targets.

As a result of our awareness creation programmes, more and more people are lodging complaints with the Ombudsman during our programmes against the wrong actions of public officers, which previously were not reported due to lack of awareness.
