The Iowa Office of Ombudsman is again honored to be hosting an official from South Korea’s Anti-Corruption and Civil Rights Commission (ACRC) for a two-year fellowship. Mr. Jung-gun Park, Chief Secretary of ACRC’s Chairman, arrived in Iowa with his family on July 24, 2013. After spending six months honing his English skills, Mr. Park recently began his study researching the independence of the Iowa Office of Ombudsman, as well as that of other ombudsman offices throughout the United States.
The ACRC was launched on February 29, 2008 by the integration of the Ombudsman of Korea, the Korea Independent Commission Against Corruption and the Administrative Appeals Commission. The ACRC resolves people’s grievances, protects their rights and fights corruption. In 2013, its staff of 480 employees handled 55,386 complaints and appeals.
Mr. Park is the third ACRC official to participate in a fellowship study at the Iowa Office of Ombudsman. These fellowships have fostered a mutual appreciation and understanding of different cultures and ombudsman functions around the world.
