On Friday 23 September Irish Ombudsman and IOI 2nd Vice-President Peter Tyndall hosted a seminar in the south-west town of Tralee, County Kerry for local groups on the importance of learning from complaints.
The seminar “Learning from the Kingdom's Complaints: How complaints can improve public services” was attended by public representatives, public service providers and representative groups from the area. The visit was part of the Ombudsman's Outreach programme and also involved staff from the Ombudsman's office taking complaints from the public and delivering training on the work of an Ombudsman to Citizen Information Centres (CIC) in the county. The CICs are often the first place citizens go to for help and advice on dealing with public services.
Ombudsman Peter Tyndall said: “As part of my visit to Tralee I met with providers of public services in the area. I want to highlight the benefits of using complaints as a source of learning. My office has recently developed a Model Complaints System for dealing with complaints that we would like all service providers to use.”
The Model Complaints Policy is available on the Ombudsman's website www.ombudsman.ie
