USA/IOWA | Ombudsman investigates conditions at juvenile home

Ombudsman Ruth Cooperrider will investigate the conditions at a juvenile home run by the state of Iowa to ensure that youths are treated appropriately.

In an official letter sent by the Chair of the Senate Human Resources  and the Chair of the Health and Human Services Appropriations Subcommittee, Ombudsman Cooperrider was asked to see into the matter and Ombudsman Cooperrider confirmed that her office will conduct the investigation as requested.

The juvenile home in question provides housing, treatment and schooling for young people with behavioral problems. According to Ombudsman Cooperrider, first inquiries were made to find out more about allegations of improper use of physical restraints including the use of isolation rooms.
