GREECE | Ombudsman opens office in Thessaloniki

The opening ceremony of the office of the Ombudsman in Thessaloniki took place on Wednesday, March 22 2023, in the presence of representatives of the State, the university community and other authorities.

During his speech, the Minister of Interior, Makis Voridis, referred to the importance of the presence of the Ombudsman in Northern Greece and pledged that the ministry would support the entire effort with staff and resources.

The Greek Ombudsman Andreas Pottakis emphasized that the operation of the Thessaloniki office, which coincides with the completion of 25 years since the establishment of the Authority, marks a new era for the Ombudsman.

The operation of the Greek Ombudsman Office in Thessaloniki is one of the actions under the project “Greek Ombudsman actions for strengthening good governance, accountability and combating maladministration in the public sector.” The project is co-funded under the programme “Good Governance, Accountable Institutions,  Transparency” by the EEA Grants Financial Mechanism (EEA Grants), which represents the contribution of Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway towards a green, competitive and inclusive Europe.

The donor countries were represented by the Deputy Head of Mission of the Norwegian Embassy, Christian Grotnes Halvorsen, who expressed his satisfaction with the success of the organizations efforts.

The office of the Ombudsman in Thessaloniki will open for the public on Monday, March 27, 2023 at the TIF site (next to the Museum of Contemporary Art and the OTE Tower) and will be operating every Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday from 10.00 a.m. to 2.00 p.m.
