Maladministration Complaints about Public Service Delivery Increases by 31% - NI Ombudsman Annual Report

Trend in Health & Social Care Sector Complaints continues with 46% increase


The Northern Ireland Ombudsman Dr. Tom Frawley published the institute’s Annual Report on the 1st of July 2014 and noted a significant increase by 31% in complaints about maladministration in public service delivery this year. This trend has been largely driven by a 46% increase in complaints relating to health and social care bodies followed by complaints against government departments and their agencies that increased by 19% year on year.


The newly released report also noted an increase in complaints against local Councils by 27.2% as well as an increase in complaints against housing associations amounting to a 57% increase in complaints this year.


The Annual Report includes statistics and a list of recommendations made by the Ombudsman as well as selected anonymised case summaries to aid learning and disseminate best practice across all bodies in jurisdiction.
