Malta | Ombudsman re-appointed

On 16 January 2011 the House of Representatives in Malta voted in favour of a motion that was presented by the Prime Minister to re-appoint Chief Justice Emeritus Dr Joseph Said Pullicino as Parliamentary Ombudsman for the next five years. Under the Ombudsman Act, 1995 the Ombudsman in Malta is appointed by the President of the Republic acting in accordance with a resolution of the House of Representatives that is supported by the votes of not less than two-thirds of all the Members of the House.

Dr Said Pullicino graduated B.A. (Hons) in History in 1958 and Doctor of Laws in 1961.  He has been Malta's Parliamentary Ombudsman since December 2005.  He had previously served for over eleven years, first as a judge and later as the Chief Justice, in the Maltese law courts and on retirement served as Chairman of the Malta Broadcasting Authority until he was appointed Ombudsman.

Presently Dr Said Pullicino also sits on the Board of Management of the Association of Mediterranean Ombudsmen (AOM).
