BackBritish Council country Office in cooperation with local Public Union “Modern Education and Support to Training” launches a three years long Project “Inclusive Decisions for Equal and Accountable Society”. The purpose of this Project being carried out since 2013 up to date and involved countries like Azerbaijan, Armenia, Georgia, Jordan, Lithuania and Ukraine is to strengthen cooperation between authorities and local NGOs dealing with protection of rights of persons with disabilities (PWDs) and to promote better ensuring PWDs rights. The final stage of the project was launched in Kyiv, Ukraine. This event was attended by experts from Great Britain, state authorities and civil society institutions.
Also, this event focus on inclusive decision making processes, prepared relevant presentations and interactive discussions. At these discussions, Ombudsman Office of Azerbaijan was represented by senior human rights adviser and specialized adviser on PWDs rights, M. Mahmudov.
During these discussions Mr. Mahmudov gave broad information about last reforms in the field of protection of PWDs rights, including Ombudsman’s proposals significantly influenced to the drafting of the relevant Law, National Action Program on the Protection of PWDs Rights for 2015-2020 years, and “2015-2020 Development Program on Organization of Inclusive Education for Persons with limited Health Capacities in the Republic of Azerbaijan”.
Furthermore, he told about the national legal framework providing every citizen regardless whether he is healthy or with limited capacities with equal opportunities in all areas of life, on coalition of over 3000 local NGOs out of which over 60 is dealing with PWDs rights.
In addition, he gave comprehensive information about Ombudsman’s activities in the field of protection and promotion of PWDs rights, including close cooperation with PWDs civil society institutions, organization of discussions with participation of such NGOs in decision making processes and participation at the Council of independent Experts operating at the Ombudsman Office, holding joint discussions focusing on challenges of such category of persons, putting forward proposals to the corresponding state authorities and etc.
