THAILAND | Ombudsman Thailand presents executive summary of Annual Report 2021

During the 2021 financial year, the Ombudsman received a total of 4,866 complaints. After fact-finding, decisions and recommendations to relevant government agencies were issued on 2,675 of these complaints, particularly those regarding revisions and changes to laws, rules, regulations, orders or operating procedures that cause grievances or injustice to people. The remaining 2,191 complaints are still under investigation.

Monitoring duties of the State as stipulated in the Constitution

The Ombudsman has the duty and authority to report to Cabinet regarding agencies of the state that have failed to comply properly and completely with Chapter V - Duties of the State, which mandates that "the State has a duty to the people” and is committed to fulfilling its obligations to all persons or all communities in general.

Cooperation with local networks and international organisations

The Ombudsman has set up and developed a network of participation from all sectors in order to promote good governance in order to correct people's complaints and ensure justice.In fiscal year 2021, there was an increase in networks operating in accordance with the principles of good governance as a mechanism for redressing people's injustices.

The Ombudsman is committed to establishing a network of international cooperation as a mechanism for solving people's problems. The Ombudsman is  promoting the exchange of information between international partners, and developing working systems that will be increasingly effective in monitoring the exercise of administrative authority and fulfilling obligations, the protection of civil rights and the promotion of good governance, both locally and internationally.
