Azerbaijan | OPCAT inspection in boarding schools

According to the instructions of the Commissioner for Human Rights, members of NPM group against torture conducted inspection in special boarding school No. 16 for paralyzed children and children infected with poliomyelitis and boarding school for children who are hard of hearing and became deaf.

They examined the living conditions of children, their provision with nutrition, inspected dormitories, class-rooms, computer rooms, library and others, talked with the directors, teachers, educators and doctors of those facilities, learned the problems of children.

During the visit to boarding school for children who are hard of hearing and became deaf, it was revealed that those buildings are in need of maintenance. Moreover, the lack of cupboards in bed rooms was also observed.

Relevant recommendations were given to the directors of the facilities for improving the detention conditions.
