Outcome document on effective parliamentary oversight of human rights

In November 2013, IOI Secretary General Günther Kräuter attended a workshop on effective parliamentary oversight of human rights, which was held by the Dickson Poon School of Law at King’s College London.

The IOI was invited to participate in this high-level workshop, which gathered leading experts from the US, the UK, Canada, Australia, Ireland and other jurisdictions. The aim of the workshop was to identify best practice in parliamentary oversight of human rights and identify practical measures to enhance.

The host of this workshop has now finalized the Outcome Document of this high-level workshop (see below), which will be launched at a side-event with the Inter-Parliamentary Union during the Human Rights Council Session in Geneva on 27 June 2014. The session will be chaired by Ambassador Laura Dupuy Lasserre, Ambassador of Uruguay and former President of the Human Rights Council. In addition to the Project team, the panel will comprise the Secretary General of the Inter-Parliamentary Union, and Mr Gianni Magazzeni, Chief of the Americas, Europe & Central Asia Branch (FOTCD) at the OHCHR.
