AUSTRALIA | Parliamentary Committee recommends new role for NSW Ombudsman

A Parliamentary Committee recently completed a comprehensive review of the system of land valuation in New South Wales.

In its final report, the Committee identified what it referred to as “significant concerns surrounding the volatility of land values, the transparency surrounding valuation methodologies, the procedural fairness currently afforded to landholders and the governance framework of the valuation system.”

One of its recommendations is a dedicated statutory role for the Ombudsman overseeing the operation of the land valuation system. The Ombudsman would be required to issue a public report every two years, which would provide a systemic review of the land valuation system.
