CANADA | PEI’s Ombudsperson welcomes expansion of jurisdiction to include post-secondary institutions

In the wake of concerns raised in a recently released report commissioned by UPEI which reviewed the University’s practices and processes with respect to harassment, discrimination and fair treatment, the Legislative Assembly has amended the Ombudsperson Act to grant jurisdiction to the Ombudsperson over post-secondary institutions.

“This change in the Ombudsperson Act allows for an objective review of complaints about how post-secondary institutions operate,” said Sandy Hermiston, Ombudsperson & Public Interest Disclosure Commissioner for PEI

“Independent and impartial oversight can play an important role in building trust and confidence in institutions. We look forward to working constructively and collaboratively with the post-secondary institutions to improve the system for everyone.”

OmbudsPEI is ready to work with all stakeholders involved to address complaints  about fairness in the administration of post-secondary institutions.
