Radio Ombudsman is the regular podcast of the Parliamentary and Health Service Ombudsman (PHSO) featuring conversations on a range of topics such as NHS investigations, good complaint handling and improving public services. The podcast is hosted by Ombudsman Rob Behrens and it aims to generate lively discussion and interesting ideas.
In previous editions of the podcast Parliamentary and Health Service Ombudsman Rob Behrens dealt with interesting issues such as approaches to mediation and dispute resolution or discussed “What it takes to be an effective Ombudsman” with European Ombudsman Emily O’Reilly.
In the latest edition of the Radio Ombudsman podcast, Ombudsman Behrens talks to patient safety campaigner James Titcombe, whose son sadly died at Furness General Hospital nine days after his birth.
In this frank and honest exchange, Mr Titcombe shares his personal experience of bringing his case to the Ombudsman. In an open talk, Ombudsman Behrens and Mr Titcombe reflect on how patient safety has improved since, and how the experience has helped bring about crucial changes to process and culture in both the NHS and the PHSO.
