On Tuesday 11 July, the Chief Ombudsman of Thailand hosted the International Seminar, “Asian Ombudsman as a Mechanism for Promoting Fair Administration, Good Governance and the Rule of Law”. Conference delegates were privileged to be addressed by the President of the National Assembly, Speaker of the House of Representatives from 2019 to 2023 and Prime Minister of Thailand for two terms, Chuan Leekpai. IOI President Chris Field PSM had the great honour of providing a Special Lecture, “The IOI as a mechanism for promoting fair administration, good governance and the rule of law”. He was also delighted to Chair the Panel Discussion, “The importance of Ombudsman’s accountability, independence and transparency in establishing a peaceful society”.
“The International Seminar attended by Ombudsman from throughout Asia was magnificently organised by the office of the Ombudsman Thailand and proved highly successful as a means of discussing the role of the Ombudsman in Asia” said President Field.
At the conclusion of the 2023 Asia Region Meeting and International Seminar, President Field attended a formal farewell dinner with the theme, “The Temple Fair Night”. Conference delegates enjoyed a wonderful evening celebrating traditional Thai culture and food.
“The hugely enjoyable evening was yet another example of the wonderful leadership of the Chief Ombudsman, the outstanding work of the staff of the office of the Ombudsman Thailand and the extraordinary warmth and hospitality of the Thai people” said President Field.
