IOI | President provides address at international conference and celebration of the 30th anniversary of the Cyprus Ombudsman

Chris Field, President of the International Ombudsman Institute (IOI) and Western Australian Ombudsman, provided an address to conference guests on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the Office of the Cyprus Ombudsman.

“It was my honour this morning to address guests at a landmark international conference and celebration of the 30th anniversary of the institution of the Cyprus Ombudsman. I was delighted to join Maria Stylianou Lottides, Commissioner for the Administration and Protection of Human Rights of Cyprus; Emily O’Reilly, European Ombudsman and Andreas Pottakis, President of the Association of Mediterranean Ombudsman, Regional President Europe of the International Ombudsman Institute and Ombudsman of Greece. I was particularly honoured to be joined by Annita Demetriou, President of the House of Parliament, the first woman to hold this high office and the youngest person to do so as well. I sincerely thank her for being a role model for women in leadership in Cyprus and around the world” said President Field.

“The Cyprus Ombudsman’s work in service of the House of Representatives of Cyprus, the citizens of their great country, and in support of the global institution of the Ombudsman, is an achievement of the highest significance and profoundly worthy of today’s celebration” said President Field.

President Field told conference delegates: “Very significantly, the Cyprus Ombudsman has recently been re-accredited as an ‘A status’ National Human Rights Institution by the Global Alliance of National Human Rights Institutions. As President of the International Ombudsman Institute, I congratulate the Cyprus Ombudsman on its reaccreditation. This is an outstanding achievement and one of which their institution should be extraordinarily proud”.
