Provincial Ombudsman Khyber Pakhtunkhwa at inaugural ceremony
The Hon'ble Provincial Ombudsman, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Syed Jamalud Din Shah, inaugurated the Ombudsman Regional Office at Swat on August 08, 2023. The Inaugural Ceremony of the Regional Office Swat as well as an awareness campaign to the public about the role and responsibilities of the Ombudsman Institution was arranged at the University of Swat.
The Secretary, the Director General, advisors, investigation officers and a media team of the Provincial Ombudsman Secretariat, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, attended the ceremony and the awareness session. Further, the Vice Chancellor of the University, the registrar, faculty members and a large number of students alongside with elected representatives and the public attended the awareness session.
During the session, the Hon'ble Ombudsman briefed the public about the role and responsibilities of the Ombudsman Institution. He stated that administrative accountability and prevention of abuse of authority is pivotal to good governance. Public servants are accountable for performance of their official duties. It is the constitutional right of every citizen to file a complaint in this office against the injustice or misuse of power and authority by a government functionary. During his speech, he briefed the audience that the institution inaugurated the third Regional Office of the Ombudsman Secretariat at Malakand Division on the same day, to provide speedy / inexpensive relief to the public of Malakand Division at their doorstep, to ensure good governance in the Province.
Furthermore, the Hon'ble Provincial Ombudsman, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, is also planning to open more regional offices in the far-flung areas of the Province so that justice can be provided to the public at their doorstep. It is their commitment to deliver free of cost, speedy justice in a manner that is impartial, fair and equitable. He elaborated that this awareness session has been conducted with ample support of the International Ombudsman Institute (IOI) by providing subsidy grants for the awareness campaign. This awareness session is an attempt to provide information on how to contact this office through different means and how an aggrieved person can be helped. During the session pamphlets, brochures and informative material on printed form were disseminated amongst the audience.
