NIGERIA | Public Complaints Commission goes to church: Spreading awareness and empowering the community

A sensitization program was held on 7 July 2024 at Jubilee Baptist Church, Osogbo, Osun State Nigeria, to raise awareness about the Public Complaints Commission (PCC) and its services. The program was made possible through the efforts of Mr. Ayeni Fredrick Damilare (a Staff of The Commission) a member of the church, who secured a time slot for the event.

Ayokunle Michael Osagie, was the guest speaker. He provided valuable information about the commission’s role in resolving complaints between Individuals and Government Agencies, Free of charge. Despite being established in 1975, the commission remains relatively unknown to many Nigerians, leaving many to suffer in silence. OSAGIE took the initiative to promote the commission’s services, with the approval of the Director of Investigation, Mr. Vincent Mewase.

The program aimed to educate the congregation on how to utilize the PCC’s services to address various grievances, including issues related to Employment, Healthcare, and More. Ayokunle Michael Osagie emphasized the commission’s commitment to providing a platform for citizens to voice their concerns and seek redress without fear of litigation costs or prolonged legal battles.

The event sparked a lively question-and-answer session, with many attendees seeking clarification on the commission’s processes and scope. The Reverend encouraged the speaker to drop off their office phone numbers for further inquiries, acknowledging the overwhelming interest in the PCC’s services.

Many in attendance expressed shock and relief upon learning about the commission’s existence and its Free services. They had been suffering in silence, unaware of a dedicated platform to address their complaints. The program alleviated their concerns, and they praised the commission’s efforts to reach out to the Church/Community.

The sensitization program marks a significant step in increasing awareness about the Public Complaints Commission and its vital role in promoting good governance, accountability, and social justice. By providing a safe and accessible channel for complaints, the PCC aims to empower citizens and promote a more equitable society.
