The President of the Republic of Cyprus, Mr. Nicos Christodoulides, has reappointed Mrs. Maria Stylianou-Lottides as the Commissioner for Administration and the Protection of Human Rights (Ombudsman) for a six year term after the approval of her nomination by the House of Representatives.
Specifically on April 6, 2023, the plenary session of the House of Representatives, approved by an overwhelming majority the nomination of Ms. Lottides to the post of the Commissioner.
This process was followed by an open call for applications for the post, for the first time, during which all interested persons applied for it. This process was established by a decision of the Council of Ministers in 2022 and was assessed by the Subcommittee on Accreditation (SCA) as compliant with the Paris Principles.
At a meeting held at the Presidential Palace on April 21st, 2023, in the presence of the President of the House of Representatives, Ms. Anita Demetriou, Mr. Christodoulides handed over to Mrs. Lottides the act of her appointment for another six-year term of office.
During the meeting, Mr Christodoulides highlighted, inter alia, Mrs Lottides's experience and expressed confidence that she will successfully fulfil her duties.
For her part, Mrs Lottides indicated the importance of the independent institution of the Commissioner, which is next, not only to society, but also to each individual citizen for all issues that concern them and noted that for six years the Institution has been by their side and will continue to be.
