MAURITIUS | Reminder: The Ombudsperson for Children holds two-day workshop on the situation of children in conflict with the law and deprived of their liberty

The Office of the Ombudsperson for Children invites Ombudsman and Mediator Institutions affiliated with the International Ombudsman Institute to participate in a 2-day Workshop on the theme “The role of Ombudsman and Mediators in monitoring the situation of children in conflict with the law and deprived of their liberty” to be held in the Republic of Mauritius on 5 and 6 September 2023. This workshop is mainly financed by the International Ombudsman Institute under the IOI Regional Subsidy Programme.

The aim and objectives are as follows:

  • To discuss the role of Ombudsman and Mediators in monitoring the situation of children in conflict with the law and deprived of their liberty from a child rights perspective and to share experiences and good practices.
  • To understand the issue of children in conflict with the law as per the UNCRC and the UN Guidelines on Juvenile Justice
  • To identify threats and challenges in monitoring the implementation of the provisions made in the above instruments on the topic
  • To share experiences and good practices
