An international seminar dedicated to human trafficking prosecution and coordination in this regard was held by the Ministry of Internal Affairs and USA Embassy in Azerbaijan.
Azerbaijan was represented in the seminar by a delegation consisting of representatives of 16 state bodies, including Aydin Safikhanly and Turan Jahangirova, staff members of the Ombudsman Office.
Aydin Safikhanly made a presentation on Combating Trafficking in the Context of Human Rights Protection. He stressed the importance of conduction of regular awareness raising events among refugees, IDPs, migrants, children, women and persons with disabilities, involvement of civil society organizations along with governmental bodies and international organizations in development of new strategies in this field.
He added that the National Preventive Mechanism (NPM) regularly monitored the Center for Illegal migrants of State Migration Service as well as the Office for Combating; persons detained in those facilities are explained human trafficking, as well as their rights, they are also informed about protection mechanisms, administrative and other actions carried out in this regard.
